Hi, the (official) ImageNet LOC_synset_mapping.txt to get the ImageNet labels list can be downloaded from the Kaggle ImageNet Object Localization Challenge.

LOC_synset_mapping.txt: The mapping between the 1000 synset id and their descriptions. For example, Line 1 says n01440764 tench, Tinca tinca means this is class 1, has a synset id of n01440764, and it contains the fish tench.

This list does not match the labels that were used to train keras inception_v3, I realized after days trying to find a bug in my code because the accuracy when evaluating the model was zero! Just a warning so nobody goes through this again. here is the list used by keras https://s3.amazonaws.com/deep-learning-models/image-models/imagenet_class_index.json

I am facing the same problem what was your target labels did you use the index or the class names

NB: am using flow_from_dataframe which require a y_col value that i can't find what it has to take.

Since crane occures twice with different meanings, how do I know which is which without running the model and looking at the pictures? Can I assume that those two labels are sorted by ILSVRC2012_ID ? Thus crane in line 134 has ILSVRC2012_ID: 429 and means bird thing and crane in line 517 has ILSVRC2012_ID: 545 and is the machine?

does anyone convert the 1000 fine labels to coarse labels? such as convert all dogs label to a single one? In some case, the coarse labels will be usefull to reduce the model size.

I've created a set of coarse labels for my own work, which I created by hand. Feel free to take a look at https://github.com/noameshed/novelty-detection/blob/master/imagenet_categories.csv

Excuse the messy repo - I'm in the process of reorganizing :)

Hi, Is there a python script you have come across to create json class index like imagenet when having custom folders(classes of your own)?
I thought this could be useful when using pre-trained models for our own tasks and we can take advantage of methods such as decode_predictions.

Thanks for your kind comments, I'm glad it helped you!

If you're using tensorflow, I recently noticed there now exists a more handy way to get the imagenet labels for a class.
A snippet from this TF document:

labels_path = tf.keras.utils.get_file(
'ImageNetLabels.txt','https://storage.googleapis.com/download.tensorflow.org/data/ImageNetLabels.txt')
imagenet_labels = np.array(open(labels_path).read().splitlines())
predicted_class_name = imagenet_labels[predicted_class]```

@anishathalye

In case it's helpful to anyone, I manually created "simplified" ImageNet labels that might be better for certain use cases: https://github.com/anishathalye/imagenet-simple-labels. Some comparisons:

ID ImageNet Keras Simple
87 African grey, African gray, Psittacus erithacus African_grey grey parrot
97 drake drake duck
134 crane crane crane (bird)
156 Blenheim spaniel Blenheim_spaniel King Charles Spaniel
383 Madagascar cat, ring-tailed lemur, Lemur catta Madagascar_cat ring-tailed lemur
439 bearskin, busby, shako bearskin military cap
517 crane crane crane (machine)
628 liner, ocean liner liner ocean liner
667 mortarboard mortarboard square academic cap
699 panpipe, pandean pipe, syrinx panpipe pan flute
913 wreck wreck shipwreck
930 French loaf French_loaf baguette

Among other things, this solves the "crane vs crane" problem mentioned above.
