Notes apps I have tried
Notes apps I have tried
- Evernote
- way too busy
- tags
- skitch garbage
- no nested folders
- limited features unless you pay a subscription
- OneNote
- not really a text editor (weird text box stuff)
- too heavy
- more like an image annotator or something
- Alternote (evernote client)
- a lot closer than evernote
- title behavior isn’t great
- no nested folders
- tags
- can’t open in new window
- Bear
- subscription for sync
- weird markdown stuff
- tags are not folders
- Quiver
- no nested folders
- fussy text boxes
- markdown preview
- tags
- no ios sync story
- Simplenote
- fewer features than Notes.app
- title behavior is excellent
- list behavior is subpar
- tags are not folders
- Workflowy
- a cool idea but not a proper text editor
- no mac client
- quality seems low
- too fussy
- Google Keep
- nav is not a list
- no mac client
- Scrivener
- pretty heavy for notes
- can’t trial the iOS app
- title behavior isn’t great
- no keyboard-based outlining
- project-based structure is a bit weird for notes
- Notational velocity
- no folders at all are you kidding me
- Ulysses

Thanks for posting this list! I found it completely accidentally, but I find it very helpful. I and a colleague of mine happen to be working on a note-taking app, as a result of years of frustration with many of the apps you have listed. I'd be glad to use your feedback as a proof that we are going int he right direction. Perhaps, we could chat a bit more, as things in our development progress a little.
