LAMM laser usage

Load into InkScape

  • Start InkScape
  • Load .SVG file
  • Ensure all objects are converted to paths and check scales using mm sizes.
  • Export as .DXF

Download to Laser

  • Start Laser app
  • Load your .DXF file
  • Move imported paths onto laser bed (top right corner).
  • Click Download
  • Clear ALL existing designs, since any previous users will have stuff already loaded.
  • Set power (0.65), speed and cornering speed of laser. The latter two should be looked up in the reference book, based on the material being cut (and required depth)

Prepare Laser

  • Open lid.
  • Ensure grill and honeycombe (latter has white tape in bottom left corner) are placed on the bed.
  • Move laser to just outside top-right corner of bed (Use Left/Right).
  • Place material on the bed at top right, covering only the honeycomb, not the flat metal.
  • Press Z to enter height mode.
  • Place perspex tool next to the laser to get correct cutting distance (Allow 1mm extra clearance for slightly inaccurate tool). Use Up/Down to move the laser to the correct height.
  • Press Z to leave height mode.
  • Move laser with Left/Right to be over the top-right corner of the material to be cut.
  • Close lid.

Test layout

  • Press Test
  • Check that laser route is within the material you have placed down.

Run Laser

  • Turn on fans (first two sockets on 4-socket block)
  • Press Start
  • Wait...
  • Remove finished pieces & scraps.
  • Turn off fans (first two sockets on 4-socket block)

Billing

  • Add laser time to laser book (and time of completion)
  • Add any materials (wood/acrylic) to materials book.
