Register an ABN

The cost of registering your business name with the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) is $42 for 1 year or $98 for 3 years.

Engineers Do Engineering

Australian Law defines and recognises protected titles. This means that only those people who are registered, or endorsed, in a particular profession can use the titles associated with that profession.

Engineer vs. Professional Engineer in USA.

"doing some book keeping" vs Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA).

Only a registered architect can call themselves an ‘architect’ in Australia, but anybody can call themselves an engineer.

Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer

The ring symbolizes the pride engineers have in their profession, while simultaneously reminding them of their humility. The ring serves as a reminder to the engineer and others of the engineer's obligation to live by a high standard of professional conduct.

However, the ring is not a symbol of qualification as an engineer; engineering qualifications are determined by provincial and territorial licensing bodies.

Scientists Do Science

"What experiments do I do? What knowledge am I generating?"

Stigma in Science

Bill Nelson, Administrator NASA (former senator) Nicola Fox, Associate Administrator (since Feb '23)

Nicola @ 12:00 "... beyond our director of UAP research, NASA will also advance citizen reporting by working with the public and commercial pilots to collect a broader set of data, to add to the vast data repositories, to not only contribute to a broader, more reliable data set for future UAP incidentsm but to also contribute to the destigmatisation of the important study of UAP."

Stigma mentioned again at 17 minutes, 19 minutes. Second only to AI.

Dan Rivers @ ITV (UK): "I heard the word stigma mentioned several times; that you want to remove the stigma. Is your message to pilots and other people that this is no longer the preserve of cranks, and that you won't be laughed at, and that you will take them seriously? Is that the takeaway?"

Nicola: "That is exactly the message. At NASA we're scientists."
