I got this from Amazon as my new Echo fails to register, giving me a 12:2:15:1:1 error.
I'm sorry you're not able to connect your Echo device to a Wi-Fi network. Before you connect your Echo device to a Wi-Fi network, make sure:
-- Your Echo device is at least eight inches from any walls and windows and not near any sources of possible interference (such as microwave ovens or baby monitors).
-- You enter your Wi-Fi password correctly (including any numbers or non-English characters). Your Wi-Fi password is case sensitive and is not the same as your Amazon account password.
-- You meet the minimum bandwidth requirements for streaming through Alexa. Your Internet connection needs to be at least 512 Kbps (0.51 Mbps).
-- The device with the Alexa app is not connected to a wired network (for example, a laptop with an Ethernet connection).
-- Other devices (such as tablets or mobile phones) can connect to your network. If not, contact your Internet service provider, network administrator or the person who set up your network for assistance.
-- (Dual-band routers only) The network name (or SSID) is different for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band.
If you've checked all these things, follow these steps:
STEP 1: Restart your Echo device and network hardware
You can restart your Echo device, Internet modem and router to resolve most intermittent Wi-Fi issues.
1. Turn off your router and modem, then wait 30 seconds.
2. Turn on your modem and then wait for it to restart.
3. After you restart your modem, turn on your router and then wait for it to restart.
4. While your network hardware restarts, unplug the power adapter from your Echo device for three seconds and then plug it back in.
After you restart your Echo device and network hardware, try to connect to your Wi-Fi network again.
STEP 2: Reset your Echo device to its factory defaults.
You can sometimes resolve intermittent problems with your Echo device when you reset it. When you reset your Echo device, any device settings (such as your Wi-Fi network information) need to be re-entered when you re-register your device.
To reset your Echo device:
1. Use a paper clip (or similar tool) to press and hold the Reset button for five seconds. The Reset button is located at the base of your Echo device. After you press and hold the Reset button, the light ring on your Echo device turns orange and then blue.
2. Wait for the light ring to turn off and then turn blue again. When the light ring turns orange, your Echo device enters setup mode.
3. Open the Alexa app to connect your device to a Wi-Fi network and try to register your device again.
If you continue to have trouble connecting your Echo to Wi-Fi, feel free to call us and we'll be happy to investigate the issue. You can reach us by phone directly using https://www.amazon.co.uk/clicktocall-alexasupport or by email at alexa-support@amazon.co.uk. We're available from 6 a.m. to midnight GMT, seven days a week.
Thanks for using Alexa.

this error mostly happen because

  • either your device is reported as lost or stolen

  • either your device is defective

  • either amazon shipped a product with duplicate sr number

  • sometime this error happen during device setup due to unsupported witless network

Simple solution to this problem is

  • try to setup your device using different mobile device and different wireless network , make sure the wireless network is dual band and frequency range 2.5 to 5.0 ghz

  • call Echo Support Team they will fix the issue if the device have software issues

I contacted that EchoSupportTeam..
Seems to me that its a scam:
I tried to DL the(?) Alexa app but doing so it gave me an error 7.3.0.0.1.
So i contact them with the online chatbox they provide,
https://echoalexasupport.com/download-alexa-app/

You (change name)

hi had a 7.3.0.0.1 eroor

I understand the problem and I will try my best to help you with the same.

May I know which Alexa device you have?

You (change name)

an echo?

As i can check the records something's wrong with the network configuration so i need to assign a network enginner as well
So there would be a one time charge as it will be a paid support.
The charge for the support is 99.99 USD, would that be ok?

You (change name)
nope

It has been a pleasure chatting with you. Thank you for using our online chat service.

You (change name)

So, the only goal here is to get people ripped of....?

Hi, I had problem to register Amazon echo with Xiaomi Note 4 and others mobile from Xiaomi. If your registration failing "Registration Failure" with your Xiaomi then change brand of mobile.

Hi, I had the same issue. But I was able to fix it by following below steps:

Sign out from all active alexa apps from all of android phones
Visit https://alexa.amazon.com using your PC/Laptop and then sign into your account.
Now perform the setup of echo dot.

I was able to fix after following these steps. Hope it will work for others too.

Interesting to see that some spammer bots were attracted by this gist. Do remember to report them to github to remove their accounts (the tree-dot menu on the comments)
