Indicator Synapse is a Spotlight Alternative, developed by Tom Beckmann.
How to Install Indicator Synapse (Spotlight Alternative) on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS or Linux Mint 17 run this commands in terminal:
$ [sudo] add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/apps
$ [sudo] apt-get update
$ [sudo] apt-get install indicator-synapse
After installation once you log out and log in then you can see indicator tool.
This also having a shortcut to use
Alt+Super+Space
it is not working with this shortcut you can go withAlt+F10
.
The following worked for me on Ubuntu 16.04.
Add the elementary OS daily PPA, required for the dependencies:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:elementary-os/daily
Add the unstable-upstream PPA for indicator synapse:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:elementary-os/unstable-upstream
Then follow the following instruction:
System Settings > Software & Updates > Other Software > find and click elementary-os/daily repository > Edit > change Distrbution value to "trusty". Do the same for the ppa:elementary-os/unstable-upstream repository. Then
sudo apt-get update
andsudo apt-get install indicator-synapse
. That's all.You can remove the PPA after installing Synapse Indicator if you want.
