- open Intelli J
- Click on "Tools"
- Click on "Create Desktop Entry..."
... and be done.

Yeah, the instructions say Open IntelliJ, click Tools, then click "Create Desktop Entry." What it DOESN'T say is between step 1 and 2 you have to open a project. The issue is there is a Tools object on the launch screen, but you need the Tools MENU. @8FN you are the man.

The Tools option works perfectly
You need to go in
Tools
as here at the top of the intellij IDEA. And you will get an optionCreate Desktop Entry
