An employment manifesto

Statistically speaking, I do not want to work for you.

I'm not interested in how much investor money you have, or how revolutionary and bulletproof your business model is. To me, businesses and money are just a means to an end and not the goal itself. Money is a metric that people feel safe attributing value to. I understand that you need money to survive. Yet, if you create value in the world, generating the means necessary to survive will come as a byproduct. Your focus on the payout dilutes the value you could have otherwise created.

I'm not interested in maximizing profits. I am interested in building the future. I am interested in conceptualizing what life should be like in 50 years, and working to make that a reality. It's called vision. If you're trying to build the next big social network or coupon site, you probably don't have it.

Money comes and goes, but great ideas change the world. My time is too valuable to be wasted on some capitalist fantasy. Yes, I want to make money, but only because that's what lets me live and continue to work on the stuff that actually matters.

Please do not try to sell me on your totally awesome company and snake oil ideas. Unless you can offer me a chance to change the course of history, I am quite content at my awesome corporate job. It already sufficiently funds my efforts to do something great.

I love this - and concur completely. If I had a t-shirt with this on, I would wear it proudly.
