Sun is going down. Same use of mundane material very effectively. "Unlazy milling about- purposefully being lazy" PCs narrow Torph from the group of children. None of the children appear to be armed. Aprox 20-25 kids on a lot about the size of our house.
7 huts. No places to rest, firepits although there are vents, consistant 4 largish boxes of surprizingly old storage crates. one toward the middle of the compound has just one box. Smells of Torph. Kids are sleeping in the boxes.
Torph Original outcast leading all the children; To deal with the probelm it may dissolve leadership and disband the problem. Otherwise PCs would have to slaughter everyone. Oldest kid @ 22. Dwarven young adult. Bad limp.
Responds with a tactical evasiveness. Scoffs at Asher's heal check w regret at showing any action. Children play coy so Asher does the same & makes some eggs. Seems like he's waiting for something that doesn't nessisarily have anything to do with PCs. Quarion & Asher open a box and Sawen outside sees the kids suddenly stop wondering around and nervously glancing at the hut. Appear malnourished and seem to only forage for food. 100% living. Go inside exactly when it gets very difficult to see.
After sundown | |
Torph grinding herbs for healing as ritual & not addicted ferverency. Can also be used as a depressent recreational drug "like being very drunk". Climbs into a box & Sawen closes it & applies Tensor's binding and floating disc. He claws his way out of the box & gets injured and bloodied doing so without anybody noticing.
The only story Sawen knows that compares to how they act is a story of a man whose wife would not respond to him even after being shaken or beaten.
PCs interview kids captured before who claim up when asked about the paste. Had withdraw symptoms but not acting like addicts.
Query Heichang on religion- worship pelor & not devout.
Apparently they worship Ichemen. We convinced them that wasn't a good idea and sent them to help fortify the city of Beryl. Torph is convinced he'll be famous.
Bracers of Bold Manuevering
+4 bonus to AC vs AO |

Last session, the party fought a blue person and some necromancers immitating zombies. It was Billy's first game; He was tracking the necromancers before they met our party.
Bein had been the largest center of other religions in the world. Dryril professed loyalty to Pelor to gain international support & united the country when Heisech the Groundbreaker killed & militias broken, but loosely organized skirmishes continue civil war.
# 1a party arrives outside of the village of one tribe resisting tribe & tuck in first.
Not completely nomatic. no paved roads stone buildings. most excellent shanty town with fort houses collapse into bunkers and other skilled defenses-- but not up to Heichang's.
PCs do *take me to your leader* to meet a very very very strong Goliath Ghaen, a "spiritual leader" of tribe Sercha. It's Arthur's idea to open the meet with a gift. Ghaen thanks the entire party (apparently) interprets Arthur & Asher to be a servant of Quarion. Ghaen lauds Kordak as a great man, desceased. Quarion tries to explain that Kordak was stranded on a foriegn plane but this is beyond Ghaen; he shrugs and shoos party to *General Crugel son of (late) Kordak* with a pretty feather.
# 10a party arrives @ dryril's camp raised & occupied by Gen Crugel son of Kordak's militia
Gen. Crugel appears to be an aged Goliath (60ish): almost as old as Ghaen. He appears to have required many pink non-barbarian races who warily surround PC party at a distance. A v. chatoric discussion follows: Quarion trying to be gentle & rational, Arther engaging his logic head-on.
Crugel: Of course. If Dryril left we would crush him.
Why would you side with a bad person against another bad person? Isn't that two just bad people?
But then you're fighting two bad people!
Quarion: (Dryril did lots of bad things--) Like what?
He enslaved me. But I escaped.
Quarion: I'm sorry (very awkward) ignorant of your ways, but is this common practice among your people?"
No. (awkward pause) | |
We sell between tribes. Not to other nations.
How can you not fight a bad person?
Arthur: It's like a trick. We make the bad people fight eachother.
You're cunning. You force the bad people to weaken eachother.
And then you kill Dryril.
Arthur: We're not trying to kill Dryril, but if you want to afterward--
--Quarion tries to interject, but
You little elves I meet, you think you know so much--
--Quarion & Crugel argue. Crugel doesn't take magic users seriously.
We know Dryril is bad, and we know Salef is bad. How do you know the demons are bad?
After I escaped slavery, I traveled a long time. Some of the people I lived with, we lived with (gestures to the room) worshiped the demons who were very good to them. How do we know it's not that?
--Quarion thought that Crugel may have been talking about tieflings.
Of course I know what teiflings are. When I was traveling they worshped the demons and the demons walked around, everyone worshipped them. Like kings. They were good kings.
Quarion: I guess don't know any good demons.
It's okay, not many people are as well traveled as Crugel.
--Family of Asher was devestated by demonic activity.
Maybe the demons on the infernal plane are not as indicitive as the ones here.
--Asher wants to know if Kordak still knows demons, if there's any intelligence to be gained there.
Of course not, how can I travel to there? I'm not a magician.
--Quarion describes to Crugel Kordak's unforunate "end," & both realize they allied during heroic levels.
Quarion: So you're not Kordak, you're Crugel?
Oh, you're that squishy elf! You all look the same to me. We fought a beholder, right? I changed my name. My son, he is great, I took his name. A great magician. The only one. I've been in planes for years. But the time on the planes is different. We climbed on the bottom of ghost island and found a portal. And then there were many more portals. I remember you, too! You saved my life on the water tower, yeah!
--Quarion realizes same minis from creepy village-- they all look older, much older. They all look battle-hardened. even Elmver.
Quarion: You might be interested to know Sawan is alive as well, he simply couldn't make it today.
Oh yeah, the blue guy. The other squishy one. |
