Linux Specialist, Data Center Engineer @ Deloitte Global | |
Required: | |
• Detailed knowledge of the build process for SUSE / Red Hat | |

Job Description (high level) | |
The primary objective of the position is to provide operational support within the Global Hosting Center (GHC) for the Linux operating system and the related applications, as well as to provide support, where possible, in other functional areas supported by the GHC. | |
The responsibilities include Linux server operating system (all versions) and infrastructure application installation and support. This will also include enterprise backup tools and enterprise virtualization tools (VMWare and HyperV) that support the Linux platform. | |
Hardware supported includes HP/IBM storage solutions (EVA, MSA, and XIV), HP rack and blade servers, and Cisco Storage Area Networking equipment. | |
This role will be the primary point of contact and ‘Subject Matter Expert’ for installation and support of Linux and Linux supporting infrastructure within the Global Hosting Center. The role will also involve training of peers around those technical skills and related processes. | |

Role Specific Responsibilities | |
Dependent on the assigned Operations team, the primary responsibilities include: | |
• Global Hosting Centre Operations and managed firm functions | |
Additional responsibilities regardless of team include: | |
• Accountable for execution according to established standards, procedures, and processes | |
• Cross-Functional support for development and implementation of systems | |
• Ensure data center systems are always available and reliable | |
• Ensure optimization and performance of the hardware and virtual infrastructure | |
• Develop controls and measurements to monitor progress | |
• Monitor the Service Desk system and Respond to and manage service issues and problems | |
• Ensure all activity and communications meets SLA's | |
• Change Control – Participate in change process as well as review and approve changes specifically within Infrastructure Operations | |
• Participate in post mortem activities and report generation | |
• Report any breaches in information security or policies | |
• Responsible for awareness and compliance to policy and guidelines of the ISMS for Infrastructure Services | |
• Work with vendors to ensure efficient and effective service delivery | |
• Monitor the Service Desk system and respond to and manage service issues and problems | |
• Participate in planned "Systems Day" and other maintenance activities | |
• Participate in a 24x7x365 On-Call rotation | |
Knowledge Sharing / Documentation | |
• Collate data and distribute daily and monthly operational reports OR Produce daily and monthly reports on activities and service failures | |
• Contribute to, produce and maintain processes, procedures, operational and architectural documentation, that meet DTS Standards. | |
• Change Control - Ensure compliance with processes and adherence to standards and documentation | |
• Management of documents and processes | |
• Train new staff in technical processes and procedures | |
• Work with CTO leadership and applications teams in reviewing new documentation | |
Qualifications | |
Education (degree): Bachelor’s Degree/College Diploma in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience | |
Years of Experience: 8-10 years engineering experience in large global enterprise environment (ideally Microsoft & Linux based) | |
Technical Skills | |
• Has a basic knowledge and background of all Solutions Architecture technologies, processes and issues, sufficiently enough to be able to understand how to proceed further and advise our with peer guidance to stakeholders | |
• Demonstrated ability to specify data collection and thresholds and to analyze complex results. Provides recommendations or solutions including basic linear trending. Exhibits knowledge of management reporting process and guidelines. | |
• Ability to participate in the business impact assessment and risk assessment processes and help identify appropriate controls to mitigate identified risks. Understands and can communicate requirements of member firms and external regulatory bodies for data privacy. | |
• Contributes to and is consulted during infrastructure architectural activities by applying select architectural techniques and technical knowledge. Understands and leverages infrastructure architectural principles for cross-functional purposes. Works with vendors as well as internally. | |
