Thoughts on Programm - Reuseability

Thoughts on Programm - Reuseability

Hi Jessica!

I just heard your interview here: http://blog.cognitect.com/cognicast/082. Its interesting to hear about your thoughts, as always. I want to share some thoughts about two topics from the interview:

Prezi

I find it very natural that you use that tool. The first time I saw it it created an imidiate reaction about a tool that could be usefull. I mean we have computers which are compared to other (analog) media nealry unlimited. But creating a text file with just endless lines is a weak impression of infinity.

I came across Nile for the first time in 2011

When Alan Kay presented his talk "Programming and Scaling" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9xLi0iJg1g best watch the whole talk!) The Idea to create an Approach that satisfies the users demands for personal computing in less than 10000 lines of Code, powered by DSL and other advanced concepts, seemed intriguing.

I searched the web and there was little to noting I found.

Later I found this talk in that at the end Dan Amelang also answers QA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubaX1Smg6pY.

The Problem with the STEPTS project is that you need all the parts together: Maru, Nile, Gezira etc..

Solving programming

Hi Luis,

I try to answer your great article : https://medium.com/@luisobo/why-does-programming-suck-6b253ebfc607 You have used a budget of about 7000 words I try to keep below of that.

From your article I took three questions which can help us in answering the big question (How to solve programming)

  1. What is Programming
  2. What is a Computer
  3. What is Progress in Context of Programming

I think this you can view this from a different point of view.

In my opinion this is because what people think software is.

So if you see software as code which expresses what you want, the question is what do you do when it does not do what you want wrong, or do you want something additionally.

So software really is our desire for some specific thing. But it is also a tool which can express arbitrary things. So its a mirror which reflects back on us to discover our real intentions and desires.

How to think an impossible thought?

On Blockchains - Postcapitalism - in response to: Postcapitalism by Jamie Dobson https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGdQnL4-H9M

An impossible thought?

But what do we want to think? I think many people want the same thing (see maslov pyramid of needs). But the ever interesting question in the history of humanity was: How to do that so that there exists an equilibrium between all humans (society) and the rest of the planet (nature). Personally I see post-capitalism as a part of a solution for that, but economy is only one thing that should change. To conceive such a complex balance is not a simple thing. Alan Kay often talks about how the internet has some biological ideas in it and yes I think to achieve that balance we need some kind of network organism where everyone is connected and heard. Even nature. So lets focus on that, the impossible thought: How can we live together in peace and prosperity with each other and nature? Sometimes, somehow this reminds me of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K

Response to : Shouldn’t We Fix Poverty Before Migrating to Mars?

Poverty is a real issue but to "fix" it we have to work on many different aspects. One that is often overlooked for example is this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofsncCF9O_U

A Dashboard for Progress

The Term originated from the book : Utopia for realists. Discussing the terms GDP, GNP, GPI und ISEW.

One way to look at this problem or to look for the data of this problem is to look at academic research. In principle the universities should research technologies and then the whole nation would benefit from it. Ideally their research should be public, to all humankind.

Open Access

The next question would be what technology does a country have and where is it been researched?
