What is your greatest strength and how do you know?
Synthesizing my top four results, it looks like my greatest strength is setting and working towards goals. This feels very true with my past experiences, both professionally and personally. When I’ve made up my mind to do something, I will work diligently until it’s done to the best of my ability. This includes overcoming setbacks, being accountable to myself, and learning from making and correcting mistakes.
What role does empathy play in your life and how has it helped you?
In my former career as a teacher, I actually did a considerable amount of research on empathy. I was appointed by the head of school to serve on a character task force, where I identified that empathy was one of our weak points in character development as a school. As a teacher, I also realized that you can't teach children unless you connect with them first, requiring a significant amount of empathy. I always spent the first month of school establishing routines and building relationships with students, as I knew that those two things would make the rest of the year considerably easier in terms of classroom management and pushing students to their highest potential. Trying to understand where students were coming from helped me see the issues and barriers they faced that kept them from learning. We could then have very honest discussions
