Gender-tagging GitHub Hire Announcements

The following is all of the new hire posts from github processed where certain words are tagged. I have selected a subset of those terms that loosely indicate that one has a developer skillset and marked those by putting 'developer?' in bold next to their name. Looking at pronoun usage that github is using, the genders are also tagged. More recent hires are higher on the list.

Make a note at the terminology github uses in the case of women versus men. Look at the ratio. Come to a conclusion on your own.

Hi.

I'd like tell you about a matter that is quite personal but will result in some changes in the way I present myself and interact with the commnunity.

I am transgender.

I have known that my body did not match my internal gender since I was a very small child, but I kept those feelings hidden and did my best to make my life work with the body I was born into. The result was chronic stress, physical and psychological pain, and a severe depression that culminated in an acute crisis in October of 2012. At that time I entered psychotherapy to explore my options.

I was diagnosed with Gender Identity Disorder, the treatment for which includes psychotherapy, hormonal treatments and potentially several surgeries. I have been working with my therapist and doctors, following the Standards of Care that set out treatment guidelines for my condition.

101 conversations I generally don't want to have...

This list now exists over at http://juliepagano.com/blog/2013/11/02/101-off-limits/ and will be updated there.

I keep saying that impromptu, unwanted feminism 101 discussions are exhausting and not a good use of my resources. Then people ask what I mean by 101, so I'm starting to make a list. This list will change over time - I recommend checking back.

I highly recommend checking this list before engaging with me about feminism if you're new to it. It'll save both of us a lot of time and frustration.

Diversity in tech

Women aren't equally represented in tech because biology

Nope. This argument is bad and the science does not support it. Unfortunately, every time you say this out loud, you are contributing to cultural problems that do decrease the number of women in tech.
