User Testing Notes

With the user testing , I did not get names or ages of the kids, so I'm guessing the ages through my interactions. All the notes here are only the observations we saw, not the interpretation of it.

User 1 - Boy (4-5 yrs)

  • Tried to open carboard lamps that wasn't meant to be opened.
  • Hard to insert the LED
  • Wanted to insert LEDs in more lamps once he saw the result

User 2 - Boy(4yrs)

  • Very shy, got very excited when the light turned on

My strongest experience with math will forever be the time I wrote 3 factorial is equal to 3. This was a mistake that took me out of the race in a national Math olympiad in India :| That apart, to me math is a fun experience! As an ardent fan of MC escher, I see math not only in the theoritical world, but constantly in the world of art and design. Even simple concepts like the rule of thirds in photography is strongly goverened by mathematics. We use so much math in our everyday life, that if we take a moment to thing about it - it is pretty scary. I'm literally counting my words right now as I type this. My general view on matheatics is very simple - I think it is a very strong tool that can and will be used in everything we do. And this is the message I like to spread through my work. One of my work last year was how to use math to make art. Especially, many kids in school today think that math is hard and never actually used in real life. What I really wa

Purpose

Introduce girls to the maker culture. They will be encouraged to bring together the world of engineering and design to create exciting new projects. They will be introduced to the basics of electronics and mechanical engineering.

Learning Goals

  • Introduction to various fields in engineering
  • Understanding of some basic concepts in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
  • Introduction to the collaboration between the STEAM fields

Exploration

Every class will begin with a basic idea such as "how can we turn on a light" or "how can wwe make a machine draw for us". This conversation will lend itself to the activity of the day where we will answer these questions in interesting ways
