Jenkins setup

I just had to set up Jenkins to use GitHub. My notes (to myself, mostly):

Detailed Instructions

For setting up Jenkins to build GitHub projects. This assumes some ability to manage Jenkins, use the command line, set up a utility LDAP account, etc. Please share or improve this Gist as needed.

Advanced SCSS, or, 16 cool things you may not have known your stylesheets could do

Advanced SCSS

Or, 16 cool things you may not have known your stylesheets could do. I'd rather have kept it to a nice round number like 10, but they just kept coming. Sorry.

I've been using SCSS/SASS for most of my styling work since 2009, and I'm a huge fan of Compass (by the great @chriseppstein). It really helped many of us through the darkest cross-browser crap. Even though browsers are increasingly playing nice with CSS, another problem has become very topical: managing the complexity in stylesheets as our in-browser apps get larger and larger. SCSS is an indispensable tool for dealing with this.

This isn't an introduction to the language by a long shot; many things probably won't make sense unless you have some SCSS under your belt already. That said, if you're not yet comfy with the basics, check out the aweso

Bare minimum Chrome extension to inject a JS file into the given page when you click on the browser action icon. The script then inserts a new div into the DOM.
// this is the background code...
// listen for our browerAction to be clicked
chrome.browserAction.onClicked.addListener(function (tab) {
// for the current tab, inject the "inject.js" file & execute it
chrome.tabs.executeScript(tab.ib, {
file: 'inject.js'
});
});

C++ Coding Standards Part 0: Automated Code Analysis

Automated analysis is the main advantage to working with a modern statically typed compiled language like C++. Code analysis tools can inform us when we have implemented an operator overload with a non-canonical form, when we should have made a method const, or when the scope of a variable can be reduced.
