Note: flag people: 旗人, is a Chinese term that means “bannerman”. It refers to the people who belonged to the eight Manchu banners 八旗 in the Qing dynasty, especially the Manchu ethnic group. The banners were administrative and military divisions that were based on the clan, language, and region of the Manchu people. The bannermen enjoyed privileges and status in the Qing society, and they served as soldiers, officials, and artisans. The term 旗人 can also be translated as “flag Man”, which is a literal translation of the two Chinese characters. Here it's used as an iconic name for the 'pure English'.
