I am not a trained (or untrained for that matter) classicist. I have been taught the Odessey during middle school, and even then I was more of a STEM than a philology guy. And the rest of my knowledge about the work is by osmosis, due to, well, beeing Greek.
Ah, ancient Greece. The land of Athens, Sparta, democracy, city states, and heroes like Odysseus and Helen, and Achilleus and the Trojan War... Hey, hey, stop your horses. The first four have nothing to do with the latter. It's like saying Robespierre and Rousseau and 'Liberté, égalité, fraternité' have something to do with Charlemagne and the Paladins (like Roland and Astolfo). The first are 1700s France, the later are 700s Francia. There are some f*ing Dark and High Middle Ages between those things.

Here, Zeus starts talking about how humans blame the Gods for their misfortunes, giving the example of Aigisthos, who, while King Agamemnon was fighting in Troy, was courting (to put it lightly) Queen Clytemnestra, and actually killed the King, when he returned from the war (see the 'Oresteia' trilogy from Aeschylus, 'Electra' from Sophocles, and 'Electra' from Euripides, about that clusterfuck). Then Athena intervenes, to make her case for Odysseus.
