* for at least 20 hours a week
* in a paid position

Note: If you are nominating a specified trade occupation, your recent work experience must be in your nominated occupation. Other work experience in an occupation listed on the SOL will not be considered.
EVIDENCE OF RECENT SKILLED EMPLOYMENT
If you have undertaken part-time skilled employment work while completing a course of study, you may count this towards any General Skilled Migration skilled employment requirements as long as you were employed on a paid basis for at least 20 hours per week at the skilled level. Vancouver, March 23, 2013 —The second Canada-Australia Roundtable on Foreign Qualification Recognition (FQR) was held in Vancouver March 20-22, 2013. The Roundtable brought together approximately 70 Canadians and Australians representing government, professional regulatory authorities, employers, academia and immigrant serving organizations, to discuss current issues in FQR, share best practices, strengthen professional linkages, and work towards enhanced labour mobility.
“The Government of Canada is committed to improving the process of foreign credential recognition and helping newcomers to integrate better into the Canadian labour market and Canadian society,” said Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney. “Canada and Australia share many similarities making our countries ideal candidates for learning from one another’s experiences with foreign qualification recognition.”

Skilled employment can also be in a closely related occupation. Closely related occupations are those occupations that fall within one unit group classified under Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO). Generally, all unit groups are at one skill level. For example, if an applicant’s nominated occupation is Accountant (General) the applicant can include skilled employment in the occupations of Management Accountant (221112) and Taxation Accountant (221113) for the purpose of points.
Skilled employment may also include career advancement and would usually take the form of promotion to a senior role or higher level that relates to their field of expertise and incorporates greater responsibility.
For example - it is possible that over a 10 year period an accountant or engineer would advance in their career to a chief accountant or chief engineer or a chief executive officer. This type of career advancement may occur outside of the 4 digit ANZSCO unit group but can be consid

Your case has been passed to me for an informal review.
Generally, Transportation Engineering is seen as a specialisation of
Civil Engineering. That is why it is listed in the ANZSCO Dictionary
under the unit group 2332 CIVIL ENGINEERING PROFESSIONALS (see copy
attached), which includes;
233211 Civil Engineer
233212 Geotechnical Engineer
233214 Structural Engineer
233215 Transport Engineer
Yes, your qualifications may well support your claim, but if you are
writing software in a Biomedical Engineering environment, then you might
consider applying to ACS for assessment as a Software Engineer ANZSCO
261313. I regret Engineers Australia is no longer the authorised
assessing authority for this occupation.
However, as work experience is not mandatory for our assessment, you
are welcome to lodge a CDR application to us ... but we will require to
see demonstrated in your three career episodes (which may use material
from your academic career ... research, projects, periods of industrial
training, etc) a more generic address of the engineering competencies
