Mac OS X LEMP Configuration

Mac OS X LEMP Configuration

This Gist is a collection of configuration files that can be used to easily setup a Homebrew-based LEMP stack on Mac OS X.

Files in this repository are numbered and named for ordering purposes only. At the top of each file is a section of metadata that denote what component the file belongs to and the default name & location of the file. Feel free to implement it however you want.

Note: some configuration files have hard-coded paths to my user directory -- fix it for your setup

Here's an example of React + jQuery UI sortable. The key thing to note is that we have the render() method do absolutely nothing and use componentDidUpdate() + React.renderComponent() to proxy updates through to the children. This lets us manage the DOM manually but still be able to use all the React goodies you know and love.

Opening and closing an SSH tunnel in a shell script the smart way

Opening and closing an SSH tunnel in a shell script the smart way

I recently had the following problem:

  • From an unattended shell script (called by Jenkins), run a command-line tool that accesses the MySQL database on another host.
  • That tool doesn't know that the database is on another host, plus the MySQL port on that host is firewalled and not accessible from other machines.

We didn't want to open the MySQL port to the network, but it's possible to SSH from the Jenkins machine to the MySQL machine. So, basically you would do something like

ssh -L 3306:localhost:3306 remotehost

resolving merge conflicts with magit-ediff

Use magit-ediff to resolve merge conflicts

Use magit-ediff or 'e' on an unmerged item to resolve merge conflicts with ediff. Magit will set up an ediff with three buffers A, B and C. A and B are the original (conflicting) files, and C is the conflicted merge.

Use 'n'/'p' to move to the next/previous conflict, use 'a'/'b' to choose which changes (those in a A or B) should be the ones to keep in the merged file.

You can always just switch to buffer C and edit what the merged version should look like.
