Examples of pytest, especially funcargs
These are snippets of py.test in action, used in a talk given at
PyCon AU 2012 in Hobart, Tasmania. They are all relevant for
py.test 2.2 except where specified. Where taken from open source
projects I have listed a URL, some examples are from the py.test
documentation, some are from my workplace.
Apart from things called test_*, these functions should probably
be in your conftest.py, although they can generally start life in
your test files.

Quick clojure/quil demo to show usage of atoms to manage mutable state, AFAIK quil's architecture doesn't really allow for purely functional approach... even so, with some care one can seriously limit the number points where that mutable state is actually used (here in only 2 places) and the rest remains purely functional! The second version bel…

Python Selenium - Open new tab / focus tab / close tab

On a recent project, I ran into an issue with Python Selenium webdriver. There's no easy way to open a new tab, grab whatever you need and return to original window opener.

Here's a couple people who ran into the same complication:

So, after many minutes (read about an hour) of searching, I decided to do find a quick solution to this problem.

Clojure Destructuring Tutorial and Cheat Sheet

(Related blog post)

Simply put, destructuring in Clojure is a way extract values from a datastructure and bind them to symbols, without having to explicitly traverse the datstructure. It allows for elegant and concise Clojure code.

Clojure deftype, defrecord, defprotocol
  • defprotocol: defines an interface
  • deftype: create a bare-bones object which implements a protocol
  • defrecord: creates an immutable persistent map which implements a protocol

Typically you'll use defrecord (or even a basic map);
unless you need some specific Java inter-op,
where by you'll want to use deftype instead.

Note: defprotocol allows you to add new abstractions in a clean way Rather than (like OOP) having polymorphism on the class itself,
