"Looking at the code from the [`hep_ml` package](https://github.com/arogozhnikov/hep_ml) that the presentation is advertising, I couldn't see where this was computed (looking in the [`GBReweighter`](https://github.com/arogozhnikov/hep_ml/blob/670e184189fa3a09367e8f3b9ec3bfdcbac38b50/hep_ml/reweight.py#L180) and the [`ReweightLossFunction`](https://github.com/arogozhnikov/hep_ml/blob/670e184189fa3a09367e8f3b9ec3bfdcbac38b50/hep_ml/losses.py#L599-L605)), so I wanted to check that I understood what the $\\chi^{2}$ really meant."

"I think the ‘sum over bins’ in the $\\chi^{2}$ defintions refers to the partitions created by the split along the axis. So, compute the $\\chi^{2}$ at each possible split point as the sum of two components (one for the partition above the split value, and another for the one below). Each component is the square of the difference of the partition populations between the two samples, divided by the sum of the populations of the two samples.\n",

"We are assuming unit weights here. For weighted samples, one would take ‘the population of a sample in a partition’ to be the sum of the weights."
