Unofficial openSUSE KDE 4.3 RPMs and Live CDs 

<p>Get the latest KDE hot off the presses! The KDE Project <a href="http://www.kdenews.org/2009/08/04/kde-430-released-caizen">announced the stable KDE 4.3</a> release today, and openSUSE users can get the goods right away.</p>

<p>The KDE 4.3 release is available via <a href="http://en.opensuse.org/KDE4">One-Click Install</a> for openSUSE Factory, 11.1, 11.0, and 10.3. If you want to run KDE 4.3 without a permanent install, or if you want a fresh install of KDE 4.3 plus updates to openSUSE 11.1, Stephan Binner has provided a <a href="http://home.kde.org/~binner/kde-four-live/">KDE 4.3 live CD</a> using the openSUSE Build Service and <a href="http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service/KIWI">KIWI</a>.</p>

Ready to Rumble: openSUSE 11.2 Milestone 4 Released

<p>Looking for some summer fun? Try the latest milestone release for openSUSE 11.2! Milestone 4 is hot off the openSUSE Build Service and ready for your testing pleasure.This release includes updates to KDE, GNOME, NetworkManager, Samba, YaST, and many other updated packages.</p>

<p>This is a Milestone Release, one of several that lead up to the 11.2 final release in November. It may not be suitable for production systems, but is ready for contributors who want to help with testing and development for 11.2.</p>

<p><strong>Changes Since openSUSE 11.2 Milestone 3</strong></p>

<p>Lots of changes since the M3 release! The live CDs can now be deployed using USB sticks -- which is particularly important for netbook computers without CD or DVD drives. The live CDs now contain mc, and the KDE live CDs include yaquake. And YaST has a new Qt-based Control Center. Other updates and changes:</p>

openSUSE 11.1 Reloaded: Includes KDE 4.2.2 and 11.1 updates

While 11.2 is still months away[1] there's still plenty of activity going on
with openSUSE. In addition to last week's milestone release[2], you can also
get your hands on openSUSE 11.1 Reloaded. This is a respin of openSUSE
11.1[3], including KDE 4.2.2 packages and updates to 11.1.

This is an installable live CD that features the KDE 4.2.2 packages from the
openSUSE Build Service repo. The live CD was created by Stephan 'Beineri'
Binner, and is useful for people who want to test out KDE 4.2 and users who

Update on download.opensuse.org

We've restored user services to download.opensuse.org and are working to restore all services and add redundancy to the system. 

A few services have not been restored yet. Specifically, Publishing new Factory snapshots is disabled right now, and build server publishing is stopped. These services will be restored when the new system is fully integrated - which we expect to happen by tomorrow. We are copying content to the new system now, which will take about 12 hours.

When the restore is complete, we will also have added redundancy, so the problem of having a backup will be solved. This will also add mirror stage serving to the services offered by download.opensuse.org. 

In addition, we're re-examining the openSUSE.org infrastructure to ensure that we reduce the amount of overall downtime. This will be an ongoing process, and we will notify the community of progress here.

Unofficial KDE 3.5 Live CD for openSUSE 11.1 

<p>Want classic KDE on openSUSE, without the full DVD download? Carlos Goncalves has you covered. openSUSE 11.1 Live CDs and USB images featuring KDE 3.5 are now available for download.</p>

<p>Created by openSUSE community member Carlos Goncalves, the KDE 3.5 Live CD and USB images contain openSUSE 11.1 plus several key updates.</p>

<p>In addition to KDE 3.5, the Live CD offers OpenOffice.org 3.0, Smolt, Amarok 1.4.10, KDEPIM3, Firefox 3.0.4, K3b, and many other useful applications. You can see the entire package list here: FIXME</p>

<p>A few weeks ago, I asked for recommendations for using Gist and Vim together. My appeal to Lazyweb went unanswered, but I happened to stumble onto a Gist plugin for Vim today, and so I'm putting out the procedure for anyone who wants to merge these two powerful forces.</p>

<p>So, first things first, grab yourself a copy of the gist.vim plugin over here on <a href="http://github.com/mattn/gist-vim/tree/master">github</a>. You will need a few things:</p>

openSUSE 11.1 is Out - Get it Now! 

The openSUSE Project is proud to announce the release of openSUSE 11.1! The 11.1 release includes a ton of new features and improvements, an improved desktop experience with GNOME 2.24 and KDE 4.1.3, OpenOffice.org 3.0, YaST improvements, updated Linux kernel, and much more. The openSUSE Project is happy to announce that openSUSE 11.1 RC 1 is now available. If all goes well, this will be the last testing release before the final 11.1 public release on December 18th. 

This release includes a number of bugfixes and changes since 11.1 beta 5, as well as a new license. [1]

We all want openSUSE 11.1 to be the best release yet, and we need your help to get there. This release is ready for widespread testing, and we're encouraging everyone to download and test the beta releases. Please run the release through your usual routine, and let us know about any bugs or other issues that you find. 

Remember that this is a beta release, and is not suitable for use on production systems, however. Though many openSUSE users can and do use the Factory distribution and/or beta release for day-to-day work we want to stress that it's entirely possible that you will encounter serious bugs.
