Git's pre-commit hook to remove trailing whitespaces/tabs
#!/bin/sh
#
# This will abort "git commit" and remove the trailing whitespaces from the files to be committed.
# Simply repeating the last "git commit" command will do the commit then.
#
# Put this into .git/hooks/pre-commit, and chmod +x it.
if git rev-parse --verify HEAD >/dev/null 2>&1
then
against=HEAD

The only simple way to do SSH in Python today is to use subprocess + OpenSSH...
#!/usr/bin/python
# All SSH libraries for Python are junk (2011-10-13).
# Too low-level (libssh2), too buggy (paramiko), too complicated
# (both), too poor in features (no use of the agent, for instance)
# Here is the right solution today:
import subprocess
import sys

Example of Parallelized Multipart upload using boto
#!/usr/bin/env python
"""Split large file into multiple pieces for upload to S3.
S3 only supports 5Gb files for uploading directly, so for larger CloudBioLinux
box images we need to use boto's multipart file support.
This parallelizes the task over available cores using multiprocessing.
Usage:
s3_multipart_upload.py <file_to_transfer> <bucket_name> [<s3_key_name>]

Most active GitHub users (git.io/top)

The count of contributions (summary of Pull Requests, opened issues and commits) to public repos at GitHub.com from Wed, 21 Sep 2022 till Thu, 21 Sep 2023.

Only first 1000 GitHub users according to the count of followers are taken. This is because of limitations of GitHub search. Sorting algo in pseudocode:

githubUsers
.filter(user => user.followers > 1000)

Checkout github pull requests locally

Locate the section for your github remote in the .git/config file. It looks like this:

[remote "origin"]
	fetch = +refs/heads/*:refs/remotes/origin/*
	url = git@github.com:joyent/node.git

Now add the line fetch = +refs/pull/*/head:refs/remotes/origin/pr/* to this section. Obviously, change the github url to match your project's URL. It ends up looking like this:

Flask + uWSGI + nginx Primer

I've been having trouble with serving a Flask app via uWSGI and nginx, so I thought I'd put together some of the basics to help out others.

How this shit works

 • Flask is managed by uWSGI.
 • uWSGI talks to nginx.
