Intro to ecology (52)

  • abiotic factors: SWATS (soil, water, air, temp, sunlight)

  • organismal ecology: how a single organism interacts with its environment

  • population bio: how a group of organisms interact with their environment; how and why a pop size changes over time

  • community ecology: how species interact (bear eating a fish)

  • ecosystem ecology: nutrient and energy flow -- maybe recyclers consuming a dead fish, and how they impact things

  • sunlight -> heating -> air movement -> water movement. All because of differentials.

  • Remember angle of incidence, spreading same "volume" of sunlight over larger area in higher latitudes (northern europe more sun than central africa)

    • sunlight chief limit in water (photo...trophic zone?)
  • Great reading: Router.route()

    • creates a new Route
    • route has a beforeStack and afterStack, both are MiddlewareStack objects
    • Middlewares maintain a _stack array, of functions to run before and after an options.action
  • how does this.ready work?

    • it's on a Controller object
    • Controller has a property called _waitlist
    • when everything in _waitlist has called ready, this.ready() is fired

forward from report on use of torture

forward from the report

On April 3, 2014, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence voted to send the Findings and Conclusions and the Executive Summary of its final Study on the CIA's Detention and Interrogation Program to the President for declassification and subsequent public release.

This action marked the culmination of a monumental effort that officially began with the Committee's decision to initiate the Study in March 2009, but which had its roots in an investigation into the CIA's destruction of videotapes of CIA detainee interrogations that began in December 2007.

The full Committee Study, which totals more than 6,700 pages, remains classified butisnowanofficialSenatereport. In favor of middle housing

The middle housing plan will help increase safety by putting more feet on our streets and sidewalks. It will provide greater financial security by keeping mortgages and rents relatively lower. It will help keep our city more diverse. It will allow more of our older citizens to age in place. It will provide increased demand for better public transportation and cycling infrastructure. Portland bucked national trends with our funding of the MAX in 1978. We should buck trends again by keeping the future of our city available to the widest range of people.

I am a homeowner in the Arbor Lodge neighborhood, where Arbor Lodge park is a central public space. The park is often busy with families and games and people walking. I want to see that vigor on all of our streets and sidewalks. Middle housing can help make that happen.
