Simple wrapper over arel
require 'active_record'

# Ruby-like syntax in AR conditions using the underlying Arel layer (Rails >= 3.0).
#
# What you would usually write like this:
#
# User.where(["users.created_at > ? AND users.name LIKE ?", Date.yesterday, "Mary"])
#
# can now be written like this (note those parentheses required by the operators precedences):

A proof that Promises/A is a Monad
//-------------------------------------------------------------
//
// Hypothesis:
//
// Promises/A is a Monad
//
// To be a Monad, it must provide at least:
// - A unit (aka return or mreturn) operation that creates a corresponding
// monadic value from a non-monadic value.
// - A bind operation that applies a function to a monadic value

PostgreSQL command line cheatsheet

PSQL

Magic words:

psql -U postgres

Some interesting flags (to see all, use -h or --help depending on your psql version):

  • -E: will describe the underlaying queries of the \ commands (cool for learning!)
  • -l: psql will list all databases and then exit (useful if the user you connect with doesn't has a default database, like at AWS RDS)
