The thing that motivates me as a programmer is tackling interesting problems, and I'm happiest when I'm working in the guts of a system; debugging, refactoring, and building.

My primary philosophy as a software developer is to focus on craftsmanship first and specific frameworks second. I always strive to write clean, maintainable, code.

When I learn a new language or framework I try to learn not just how to work with it, but also how it works. For example, I learned metaprograming in ruby before I learned any of the rails "magic" that uses it.

I enjoy learning new languages and frameworks. I can be picky about what I learn on my own time, and I'll fight for a framework I think is the best fit for a problem. But even if my choice doesn't win I'm willing to learn anything when it's time to get stuff done.
