I am getting the error controller osm not found, and cannot obtain juju controller ip address, how do I go about fixing it. please do bear with me, I have close to no experience with dockers and virtualization, I am learning on the fly.

I've been away from the OSM project for the past year. I suggest joining the OSM_TECH mailing list or the Slack community mentioned here and ask the community for help. Someone there should be able to help you.

Hello, I had a similar problem and after so much struggling I found something on this page(section: manual recovery of juju) that suggests sg lxd -c "juju bootstrap --bootstrap-series=xenial localhost osm". Then after this run I run the install_osm script and stutff worked. Somehow the script fails to create the juju controller so no ip address is availed.
Hope it helps!
