If your're running your first 50k ultramarathon, this is a simple (and easily modifiable) checklist that may come in handy for your race day preparations.

50k Ultra Pack List

Need

  • Ziploc bag to collect aid station food
  • Hydration vest (I chose the Salomon Advanced Skin 12 Set)
  • Bodyglide
  • Gloves (light synthetic, not cotton)
  • Beanie (light, Merino wool)
  • Cell phone (fully charged!)
  • Electrolyte tabs (I chose Nuun)
  • Drop bag (waterproof, shoebox size w/ name + bib # marked on colored tape)
    • Shoes (w/ SuperFeet insoles as an option)
    • Socks
    • Shirt (long/short depending on weather)
    • Shorts
    • Some combo of the following or similar:
      • Chicken soup
      • Red Bull
      • Cheez-its
      • V8
      • PB+J
      • M+Ms
      • Chips
      • Beef jerky
      • Sticky rice
      • Gels
      • Chews
      • Cliff bar
      • Nuts
  • Finish bag: shirt, pants, socks, and shoes

Optional

  • Swiftwick socks if had issues w/ blisters
  • Hydration pack for hydration vest
  • Amphipod Hydraform Ergo-Lite Ultra Handheld Water Bottle(s) - 16 fl. oz. (instead of hydration vest)1
  • Blister kit
  • Small pack baby wipes (and ziploc bag!)
  • Headache pills
  • Space blanket
  • Lightweight waterproof jacket (if it is going to rain)

1 If not bringing a hydration vest, make sure you have something to hold your cell phone.
