Software
Apple destroys and dumbs down critical softwares.
Recently the Disk Utility got shot by Apple dumbing down strategy. RAID capabilities removes, window not resizable anymore…
Apple stopped developing their desktop/laptop OS, dumbing it down and getting it more like iOS.
Apple removed (hide) the possibility to run any application that didn't come from the AppStore on MacOS
Installing a software, or running a simple update requires you to have an internet connexion and an Apple ID (account).
MacOS, in 2017 still can't play half the video codecs without using third party software like VLC.
Total impossibility of closing/dismissing a software update notification in MacOS
Apple pushes music into your computer without asking your authorisation (U2 album)
Finder is still retarded and has had no serious evolution. Still doesn't support cut-paste in 2017.
Hardware
Auto-erasable SMC
The SMC erases itself when you try to read it. The SMC doesn't contain anything
Apple stores your iCloud email in cleartext in the motherboard.
Paired Touch ID
Awful GPU choices
Overheating and throttling laptops (and desktops)
Hard drives in Retina iMac 2015
Removal of essential ports (single USB-C MacBook 12 retina, USB-C only MacBook Pro 2016…) and selling of those port in the form of dongles as mandatory extra-cost/options
Removal of headphone jack
Removal of magsafe
« pro » 2000€+ laptops with almost 4k display without even a dedicated GPU
Total blackout about hardware roadmap, discontinuation of servers out of the blue, non renewal of pro hardware for years
Focus on useless things, such as thinness, ignoring the bezel size of screen, which is much more important and perceptible
Incompatible with standard USB-C adapters
Arbitrary refusal to support the standards. Proprietary "Lighting" port on the iPhone instead of the standard for smartphone (USB-C). And on the other hand, only USB-C ports on the now MacBook and no standard port for laptops (USB-3.1).
Politics & Strategy
De-responsabilisation
Hardcore greenwashing
Apple pretends to be ecologically responsible, which is a nonsense because :
- They make their product almost impossible to repair, using specific screws, glueing batteries, soldering SSDs, RAMs, wifi modules… So that any fixing would cost 750€+, pushing consumer to buy new products instead of repairing.
- They use planned obsolescence, arbitraty stopping support for perfectly good products and slowing down other with bloated updates
- They only get back 1% of their products for « recycling », those 1% get send to third party recycling center, and Apple strictly forbid them to reuse/resale/repair any of the components. The recycling center or forced to shred all products, even perfectly working ones.
Refusal to recognise conception faults
Apple products are often flawed (iPhone 4 antenna…), flaws that are obvious but that Apple will only admit and cover under warranty after a class action has begun
Refusal to sell parts to third party repair center
Refusal to provide/sell schematics and diagnostics tools to third party repair center
Graphical cards option at twice the PC versions, for the same exact products
No error code documentation
Having to answer security questions to buy a software on the app store (iOS), even if you have access to your email account, and you have the correct password. On MacOS, it doesn't ask you for that.
Awful store experience, there is no « accueil », you have to look around an find some smug looking, blue-shirt dude if you want anything. An information, to checkout, to drop a machine for a repair…
Apple refuses to pay their taxes and evades the EU tax system.
