Question1 : What role does empathy play in your life and how has it helped you?
If empathy is about seeing things from the perspectives of others, then I have found this skill very useful in my philosophy work. In philosophy, it is beneficial to look at and understand perspectives that are different from your own and to recognize them as legitimate. The ability to stand in another’s position and see the world through their eyes is utterly indispensable to philosophers who address questions about the totality of existence. No human being, no matter how knowledgeable or experienced, can ever see the whole on their own. Empathy, then is foundational to the way I think and interact with others.
Question 2: does empathy help you build better software?
Empathy opens me up to listening to others and receiving their input. It requires a certain level of humility to step outside your own perspective, set aside the things you want, and really listen to the concerns of others. Empathy helps with this.
