Professional Development

Step 3: Please respond to the following questions in a reflection (4-6 sentences):

What is your greatest strength and how do you know? How do you work best? What is your greatest area of improvement? How do you hope to maximize your strengths for your new career in software development? How might knowing about your strengths and working preferences benefit you as a software developer?

    • One of my greatest strengths is my strong desire to learn. Since I was a kid, I have always wanted to learn how to do things by myself. The act of creating by using my knowledge and the best of my abilities gives me joy and purpose.
Organization and planning are my two greatest areas of improvement. Sometimes I want to accomplish a lot of things, like practicing self-care and hobbies, nourishing my relationships and reaching my professional goals. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed and I tend to rapidly judge myself. During my time at Turing I will commit to improve these two areas. I am excited to work with like-minded individuals who are interested and are equally passionate about software development, this will give me a broader perspective to understand the industry. Making relationships with people who are pursuing a career as software developers is valuable personally and professionally. By being aware of my strengths, it makes me more acute to my own limitation and how I can overcome them.

What efforts do you make to manage your learning process? Are these efforts successful? What challenges have inhibited your ability to manage your learning process effectively? How do Sierra's and Coate's material relate to your current process for learning? What role does your emotional state of mind play in your learning? How do your successes and failures at learning affect your emotional state? How will you prepare yourself to be at your best with your learning process while at Turing?

    • During my learning process, consistency is one of the most important factors for me. This regularity allows me to keep my mind engaged and curious. Mainly most of the challenges are external factors. I have a full-time job and as a result it has made it difficult for me to commit fully to my studies and learning process. Both the article and the video have a connection with me because English is my second languages and I can relate to many of the experiences that the author narrated. I have still a lot to grow and learn from Sierra’s video, since I found a lot of goo information that I would like to put into practice. The emotional state it is highly important for me because even if I had success, my mind could be perceiving the opposite because it might not had been how I imagined it. However, learning how to trust my mind and learning process could be advantageous because, there is so much that I don’t know but also a lot that I know. Self-care and discipline will be my two biggest allies and also, by learning how to plan and organize my days will allow me to be ready to acquire knowledge.
