  1. Taking stock of where you are: what have you accomplished this module? What have you learned? Where are you stuck (have you not been able to follow through on outreach? Is your resume not finished?)? Accomplishments
  • I learned new technologies and located my areas of growth
  • I felt like a real developer for the first time
  • I was able to thnk more deeply about hte type of job I want
  • I was able to create more projects using React
  • I was able to attend the job shadow and ask questions

Create plans for 3 different companies you want to target:

  1. Questions to reflect on here: Why do you like this company? What makes you want to work there? Why are you a good fit for this company? What do you bring to the company? What transferable skills do you have? What do you already know about the company (product, team, culture, company size, location, etc.)? What do you need to learn?

The following companies sound appealing to me, Ibotta, OpenTable, Viget

  • I like the companies because they talk openly about inclusivity
  • I am interested about their technology stack
  • I like OpenTable because is food related

What I bring to the companies is a set of skills that have helped to learn new technologies and create tools to solve problems. My managerial skills and the ability to multitask are some of the skils that I will be bringing with me to my next job. I have research their tech stack

Steps to take:

  • Outreach: look at the company’s LinkedIn page: who could you reach out to? What questions do you want to ask that person?

from Ibotta I sould reach out to Tiffany again to know more about the hiring process as well as ask for madvice on how to tailor a cover letter to them.

from Viget I could reach out to Elom Amouzou and try to set up a job shadow

  • Experience: once you've made a connection at the company, how could you find out more? Consider setting up a job shadow or exploring their tech stack in your projects

  • Read back over the plan. How does it reflect your vision?

  1. Imagine that you get the job. A year later, what have you gained from this experience? How have you started to fulfill your vision?

Plan #1: > Find a connection to the job I am interested, then connect with someone from the company set up a time to meet and talk about their job and potentially ask for a job shadow

Plan #2: > Reach out to friends who are developers and talk to them about any potential job ooportunities they might be aware of. Ask for more connection and connect with them

Plan #3: > Do some cold out reach

  • Make it actionable: rank each plan on a scale of 1-5 for how much your plan aligns with the following:

number 1 plan #2 number 2 plan #1 number 3 plan #3

  • Available resources to help you pursue it: contacts, time, knowledge of the company, etc.

  • Coherence: how it aligns with your career vision Plan #2 feels more actionable

  • Confidence level: how feasible does this feel to you? I feel very confident about this plan

  • How excited you are about it?

From 1 to 10, I would say an 8. I am excited to reach out to my connections and ask them form mor connection I can talk to.

  • Now, pick the plan with the highest numbers across the board. What steps will you take next to pursue this strategy as you go into the next module?

By the en of this week I will reach out to my aquaintances and ask for more connection.
