Strengths & Storytelling Reflection Guidelines

Strengths & Storytelling Reflection Guidelines

Build on your professional story by thinking about how you're progressing at Turing. Answer the questions below in your own gist to use your StrengthsFinder themes to add to your story:

Write 1-2 paragraphs about your StrengthsFinder themes: How have you seen yourself using these strengths at Turing? Has your understanding of these strengths changed since you first reflected on them? If so, how?

I have tried using my strengthfinder themes by incorporating them into project building and pairing. My understanding of these strengths have changed since I now utilize them in a more intimate environment whereas previously they were in a corporate setting among clients.

The applications of my strengths are becoming more useful and porbably apparently as I progress with more knowledge. It's difficult to take some sort of lead role if you lack the knowledge to do so. On the flip side I think that it's good that my strengths are not currently being used at the moment because I believe I'll be able to leverage them as time progresses.

Write a story about your Turing experience so far: When have you struggled? How have you dealt with struggle? When have you succeeded at Turing? How did you accomplish those successes?

I have struggled every step of the way. It's been a long and difficult journey with lots of trial and error. I have felt success only temporarily when finishing and completing a project and then it's on to the next one. It's been difficult but tangibly possible each time. I accomplished these goals by crowd sourcing the issues and challenges and listening to others to see how they approached these problems.

Answer the question: how does your Turing story end? Create a vision for your future and your career transition into being a junior developer.

My future holds a great deal of opportunity and potential, which is exciting and scary at the same time. I would like to eventually move further west and settle down in SF or Seattle possibly working remotely as well!

After you practice storytelling in the session, answer this question: What was particularly easy or difficult about telling your story? What are 1-2 steps that you can take to continue to improve your abilities to tell your story, talk about yourself with ease, and examine your strengths?

I didn't think it was difficult telling my story since people seemed enthusiastic and interested in hearing about it. Improving as a storyteller is about understanding your audience. What gets them excited or engaged. You're not going to be able to please everyone but always take into perspective how someone may interpret what your're saying and how you're coming across.
