What role does empathy play in your life and how has it helped you?

Empathy plays a massive role in my life, and without it I wouldn't be the healthy, socially active person I am now. When I was younger I assumed everyone was looking at me negatively, thinking the unkind thoughts that I had about myself. This is because I had yet to develop a greater sense of empathy, I hadn't yet cared enough to view the world from outside of my own head. Learning to perceive the world from the point of view of others allowed me to negate my anxiety, as I realized not only is no one thinking the negative things about me that I do but that they're actually often times thinking negative things about themselves instead. Additionally, empathy allows me to act as a better employee and coworker, as I can see how my own slacking on work or coming in late might lead to someone else's work or day suffering.

What is your greatest strength and how do you know?

My greatest strength by far is my ability to empathize with and relate to other people. One way I know this is a strength of mine is via the way others interact with me. Often times, when a friend or family member is struggling, they will come to me for comfort or to bounce ideas off of me. Another way I've come to realize this is a strength of mine is via my very own thoughts an how they've changed as I've aged. As a younger man I struggled with empathy, which would often lead me to come across as cold or selfish, and through mindfullness and a good amount of the necessary growing up that comes with just living day to day I realized that every person you see or speak to is having thoughts just as complex and over-analytic as your own.
