Justification:
With the Mac now a second standard available to users in the Corporate division, and as more Macs start appearing in other divisions and subsidiaries, managing the support infrastructure currently in place has reached a critical level and needs an additional employee dedicated to providing this support in tandem with the Senior Mac System Engineer. In addition, this position will help with developing new automations, services and scripts/applications for imaging, IT and user support, in addition to providing Tier 3 support for Mac issues for Corporate as well as other Divisions and subsidiaries. This position will also serve as a knowledgeable and experienced back up for the Senior Macintosh Systems Engineer.
Currently, projects that are in progress to improve and maintain services are often interrupted by Tier 3 support requests and work on the projects is paused, adding this extra position will ensure that both Tier 3 support requests and handled quickly and efficiently and work on projects can continue unimpeded. Depending on the day, up to 90% of my time could be taken up by handling Tier 3 support or imaging requests, leaving very little time to work on projects. Adding this position will split the work equally and also reduce the amount of time it takes to develop new services while maintaining current ones and will enable us to better deliver on department SLA's and provide the same level of service or better as users and local IT have with Windows devices by reducing the number of incidences involving Macs by providing level 1 and level 2 solutions for local IT teams across the Enterprise with little or no Mac experience, and empowering users to resolve some of the more common issues that occur on the Macs.
Junior Macintosh Systems Engineer/Administrator
Responsible for helping maintain, manage the Mac infrastructure. (JAMF Casper Suite).
Duties would include creating, testing and maintaining imaging configurations for all Enterprise locations that support Macs across the different divisions and Comcast subsidiary locations; creating, testing and maintaining new and existing services, policies, applications and scripts to help automate IT functionality and provide User self help support mechanisms; testing required applications and agents in different configurations for compatibility with new versions of OS X released yearly. Working with other departments to ensure Mac compatibility with internal services.
Requires:
Experience with the Casper Suite, with preference given to Certified Casper Administrators or Certified Casper Technicians and/or at least a year of experience with same.
Thorough knowledge of Mac OS X it’s workings, preference given to Apple certifications or 2-3 years of primary experience.
Knowledge and at least 1 year’s experience with any of the supported OS X scripting languages, AppleScript Bash/shell, Python, JavaScript, Ruby or Perl, preference given to Python, Bash/Shell, and AppleScript.
