I was facing the same issue in Debian, and solved it in a more general way that abid-hussain suggests, by commenting out the given 'sources.list' entries which were leading to the error message

"E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead."

in order to get a 'clean'

'sudo apt-get update' process showing no errors
