- No game files are being distributed in any way.
- The end user must own the game on Steam or physically on Xbox
- Game Pass for both Xbox and PC are unable to do this
- There is currently no downpatch for Epic Games
This is a text tutorial on redownloading High on Life versions from Steam.
-
Open the Windows Run box (Win + R)
-
Type "steam://open/console" into the box, and press Enter
-
Your Steam client should have opened up to the hidden "Console" tab; if not, click "Console"
-
In the text field at the bottom, copy and paste one of the following commands starting with "download_depot" and press Enter
- (Steam Patch 1): download_depot 1583230 1583231 5061428114465547293
- (Steam Patch 2): download_depot 1583230 1583231 1148148835848207032
-
The console will update letting you know that it has begun to download the depot
-
Once it finishes downloading, you will receive a "Depot download complete" message containing a filepath
-
Copy the file path up to "\depot_xxxxxx" and paste it into Windows Explorer. If done properly, you should see a folder called "depot_xxxxxx".
-
Rename that folder to exactly "HighOnLife". This is your fully downpatched game.
-
Open your Steam Library, right click "High on Life" > Manage > Browse Local Files
-
In the Windows Explorer instance that just opened, navigate 1 folder up (click "common" in the file path bar)
-
If you wish to keep the most recent version of the game, rename the folder of the currently installed copy of the game to "HighOnLife Current", or anything you want. If you do not want to keep this version of the game, you can delete it from you Steam Common directory.
-
Copy and paste the newly dowloaded files (this would be the folder we renamed from "depot_xxxxxx" to "HighOnLife")
-
Press Play in Steam to launch your downpatch
- If you own a physical copy of the game and it was purchased near release, you may have access to downpatching
- Simply uninstall the game from your console, then reinstall from the disc while disconnected from your network
- You can try to reconnect to your network, but if any updates happen, redo the above step.
- The download my take a while and if you are unsure if Steam is "stuck", you can verify that files are still being downloaded through Task Manager. If Steam is showing heavy-ish network activity, then it's working as intended.
- If during step 11 you elected to just rename your currently installed copy of the game, when updates come out, you can change the name of that folder ("HighOnLife Current", etc) to just "HighOnLife" and then let Steam install the game update to that directory instead of your downpatch.
- If you install an update from Steam to your downpatch, you will need to repeat this entire process again.
