# Fediverse Hints
The fediverse is a decentral hosted network, which is working based on the ActivityPub protocol.
There are Servers with different Apps, whereas the kind of the app might serve a special purpose like (Micro)Blogging, Video-streaming, etc.
This page is for getting a quick overview and doesn't claim to have the right links for everyone.
Instead it's perhaps only a base to search for a better fitting solution.
## The Apps
Examples:
- Mastodon (Microblogging)
- Lemmy (Link aggregator, forum)
- PeerTube (Video sharing)
- Pixelfed (Image sharing)
- Threads (By the meta-company which has also FaceBook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.)
A list of Apps can be found here:
## Servers
There are many servers which build the fediverse. Selecting a server depends on the desired app
but also some other aspects. Each server might have special content rules or general topics,
and moderation.
Furthermore some servers are on widely used banning lists and therefore limited in reach.
In general any person can create an own server and a complete list is hard or impossible to create.
Some servers might be private and not available 24/7 but only for limited time.
For server owners it might be useful trying to get listed on well known lists.
One list can be found here:
Special servers are offered for different purposes like science, distributors, general public, etc.
### Accounts
Accounts on one server have always the same domain. Having the same interest like many known
accounts, might make it advisable to choose the same server like most of these people.
There exist lists whith many accounts, i.e. of scientists.
Example Lists:

- General about Mastodon: https://github.com/tleb/awesome-mastodon
### Ban lists
I didn't verify if it's about servers or single accounts, it might be worth it to serch by
yourself, but this might be a start:
