go get private GitLab with group and subgroup (Golang modules)

Problem

The go command line tool needs to be able to fetch dependencies from your private GitLab, but authenticaiton is required.

This assumes your private GitLab is hosted at privategitlab.company.com.

Environment variables

The following environment variables are recommended:

export GO111MODULE=on
export GOPRIVATE=privategitlab.company.com

GPG master & subKeys generation and usage on Git & Github (for GnuPG v2.1 or later)

This guide covers creating a master keypair (private and public key, along with an automatically generated encryption subKey), creation of subKeys from that master key to use for signing, and using said keys on Git and Github.
Passphrases are optional but strongly encouraged.

1. Create a master keypair:

  • Type gpg --full-generate-key and enter following settings:
  • Algorithm: RSA and RSA
  • Key size: 4096 bits
  • Duration: 0 (infinite; does not expire)
  • Fill in your personal info (Comment is username)
  • Enter passphrase if applicable

Convert VirtualBox .ova to Vagrant box

Here's a step by step guide to convert a Virtualbox .ova to a Vagrant box.

  1. List your VMs to find the VM id you want to convert:
$ VBoxManage list vms
"testing" {a3f59eed-b9c5-4a5f-9977-187f8eb8c4d4}
  1. You can now package the .ova VM as Vagrant box:

Get/set ID3 meta tags using ffmpeg

A quick guide on how to read/write/modify ID3 metadata tags for audio / media files using ffmpeg.

FFmpeg has a free-form command line option that allows the user to specify key-value-pairs for encoding metadata. Let's take a look.

1. Read ID3 metadata

To list all global metadata tags for a media file, just set an input but no output file.

GitHub Wiki How-To

How do I clone a GitHub wiki?

Any GitHub wiki can be cloned by appending wiki.git to the repo url, so the clone url for the repo https://myorg/myrepo/ is: git@github.com:myorg/myrepo.wiki.git (for ssh) or https://github.com/my/myrepo.wiki.git (for https).

You make edits, and commit and push your changes, like any normal repo. This wiki repo is distinct from any clone of the project repo (the repo without wiki.get appended).

How do I add images to a wiki page?
