If you like walking apart from the Royal Mile, Princes St Gardens, the Grass Market, I would recommend doing a walk along the water of Leith. My favourite starts at the back of the Modern Art Gallery and finishes at the Botanic Gardens

The area of Bruntsfield, up the road has also lots of cafes and small shops.

From the Old Town's picturesque jumble of medieval tenements piled high along the Royal Mile, its turreted skyline strung between the black, bull-nosed Castle Rock and the russet palisade of Salisbury Crags, to the New Town's neat grid of neoclassical respectability, all columns and capitals, porticoes and pediments, the city offers a constantly changing perspective. And it's all small enough to explore easily on foot.

Dunrobin Castle, close to Golspie. The castle was once the seat of the first Duke of Sutherland, notorious for his part in some of the cruellest episodes of the Highland Clearances. Beautiful formal gardens, where impressive falconry displays take place two or three times a day, extend down to the sea.
