Win10 Mobile.15215.0

OneNote 17.8241.57592.0

Experimental features ON

Good parts:

  1. Visual UI is clean

  2. Animations are nice and "Seems faster ©"

  3. Now I can clearly see chevron on page that has subpages and fold it on mobile device – was confused without it last week during OneNote update quest.

Feels bad parts:

1. Unusual placement of Settings menu.

Previously: Usually it is in SplitView component on the right (“old” OneNote, Excel/Word/PP mobile, OneDrive etc.) or in Bottom menu (Outlook Mail, Edge, Photos).

Now: user have to navigate to Notebook list screen

2. Navigation from page to Notebooks list/Settings

Previously: Back + Tap on menu button + Tap on Settings

Now: Back + Back + Back + Tap on Settings button.

At this moment it feels like OneNote will be suspended after second and third Back taps, since it is unusual to open app (so there are no navigation history) and three times tap Back. Usually app is suspended after 1-2 taps on Back if there are no navigation history.

3. Found that Sections screen has Hamburger menu button while writing this text. Catched myself in state that I close app with Back button on Notebooks screen, while expecting to hide menu which is usually implemented as SplitView.

Previously: Tap on "Hamburger" menu button + Back = Menu is hidden

Now: Tap on "Hamburger" menu button + Back = App suspended

4. Switch from one page to another page in different sections "feels" longer because there are several screen changes.

Previously: Back + ( horizontal scroll if needed + ) Tap on Section + ( scroll if needed + ) Tap on Page.

Now: Back  + Back + ( scroll if needed + ) Tap on Section + ( scroll if needed + ) Tap on Page

New way feels longer for me since there is additional switch between screens, however old way feels like everything is right under fingertips.

5. Pages list to Recent

Previously: Just tap on Recent button.

Now: Back + Back + Back (of Hamburger menu) + Tap on Recent.
