Popped in here from your link on the bug report, just wanted to say:

Don't do this. Really, it has bitten people in the arse. We don't put out releases with bugs on purpose, but it happens from time to time, and occasionally that can cause things to go wrong. Always update your Pi-hole manually, with a plan to roll it back just in case. It's a critical part of your network infrastructure, you don't want it going down when you don't have time to deal with it :) This is why Pi-hole itself does not come with an auto-updating mechanism.

Edit: though, to be fair - after giving it more than a skim I noticed you did put a warning at the bottom.
