Bye Bye Sandstorm

Dear Sandstorm Community,

In 2014 I heard about Sandstorm for the first time and joined the community. Now it is 5 years later and the project has experienced a lot and I have learned a lot. Unfortunately, the project is rather dead than alive. At one point you have to decide what you want to do with your time. Unfortunately I have to realize that Sandstorm is no longer part of it for me. I don't see the project developing much further. So I will withdraw from the Sandstorm community.

I thank all participants for the great cooperation, friendship and everything I could learn. I would be happy to work with you in other projects!

JJ

Liebe Sandstorm Community,

JJ

I am sad to hear this, but I understand. I held out a lot of hope for a while that Sandstorm would see a lot more community work or that Kenton would have more time to continue to build on it, but that has not happened. Obviously his project at Cloudflare has been a wild success, and has kept him pretty darn busy.

I haven't spent a lot of time working on Sandstorm, in my case, because the status quo meets all of my needs at this juncture. I'm not sure I have any reason to discontinue use or look for an alternative at this time. (Though Cloudron's regularly expanding feature set and app library is quite appealing as an alternative.) I am curious if you are moving your stuff to another platform or service, and what that would be.

I have spent countless of hours to keep Wekan working on Sandstorm, with frequent updates of Wekan, and I will continue maintaining Wekan and other apps at Sandstorm.

@ocdtrekkie: I don't have an alternative for users which use Sandstorm because they are not tech savvy and want to be able to simply install apps like on smartphones. As it's part of my business knowledge I'm using dockerized apps on a NAS I'm running at home. So that's not an alternative for everyone.

@xet7: I really appriciated the work with you. You are a very experienced an professional developer. Thanks for all your effort.

@JamborJan I was just curious what you were doing in case I ever need to change my personal setup. :)

Okay some details: I’m using a QNAP and Portainer on it to manage the containers. That makes it quite easy to add apps also via mobile phone as everything is accessible via web or apps if you have a bit tech know how and a more or less useful setup.
