Guiding Questions

For this initial exploration into what you bring to a team, try to avoid thinking about your TECHNICAL skills. Your answers to these questions should apply to any project/team that you work on:

  1. How would you describe your preferred working style? Logical and supportive
  2. What strengths do you bring to a team? Tenacity determination
  3. What’s gone well or poorly in your previous group project settings? I love collaboration, celebrating wins and growth
  4. How do you prefer to handle disagreements that come up? (Yes, they will come up!) Immediately- want the conflict to be resolved quickly and to ensure everyone feels heard.
  5. How do you communicate best? I prefer teams when we need to have a discussion. quick questions slack. What tools do you need to communicate well with your teammates? SLack/Teams
  6. How do you prefer to make decisions as a team? Consensus
  7. How do you prefer to receive feedback? How do you prefer to give feedback? I prefer direct feedback, I tend to read my audiance and have been successful previously reading teams needs.
  8. What do you need (resources, environment, communication) to do your best work? I need feedback and communication. I need to be able to know what you need and be able to ask the same in return.
  9. What scheduling constraints do you have? Currently am working full time tyopically Mon-Fri 6-23pm PST. What are your preferred work times outside of normal school hours? I am a night owl and love to stay up late.
  10. What does remote focus look like for you? (headphones, distractions minimized (tv, family stuff, etc), video on) Headphones with mellow music on.
  11. When working from the same place where you live, life can get in the way. What are some potential life things that could affect your ability to focus, and what plan can we come up with to approach those moments? We have three children youngest being 9 and the oldest 18. Scheduling conflicts with them have so far worked out without much of my involvment.
  12. If we encounter issues such as power outages, Zoom difficulties, or bad wifi, what backup plans can we have in place? (This could have answers like asking a neighbor to borrow wifi, using cellphone hotspot for internet, switching to Slack.) Coffee shops and wifi hotspot.
  13. How do you want the group to solve problems when members run into blockers on the project? Ask the team for feedback. SHow the work you have currently done and be open to listening
  14. What are some potential life things that could affect your ability to focus, and what plan can you come up with to approach those moments? Childrens needs. Wife has felxible schedule is being super supportive.
