Maybe

Imagine you are born into a society in which you can read as many books as you like, but you aren't allowed to write any of your own. Instead, only Official Book Writers are allowed to write books.

Then you find out that you are allowed to join the Official Book Writers Society, but you first have to write your book with one of the Official Pens. You can obtain an Official Pen fairly easily (they're free), but writing with one turns out to be nearly impossible. It doesn't look like any pen you've ever tried before, and knowing how to use it seems like a secret art.

Your friends tell you about some YouTube videos that try to teach newbies how to write with an Official Pen. Turns out the first thing you have to learn in order to write with an Official Pen is how to self-install a new electrical system in your house.

You're not sure why you need a new electrical system just to use a Pen, but everyone says that's the best way to learn how to use a Pen, so you keep watching. You get all of the new parts you'll need for your new electrical system, only to find out your house can't support the new voltage requirements. You need to first upgrade the circuit junction box in your basement in order to allow you to install the new electrical system. Which you need in order to learn how to write with an Official Pen. Which you need in order to write that book that's been in your head.

Electric

Frustrated, you're tempted to track down a member of the Official Book Writers Society and ask them a bunch of questions. Why do I need a new electrical system? Why do I need an Official Pen? Why is it so hard to become an Official Book Writer? Are you guys intentionally trying to keep people out of the Official Book Writer's Society? And if not, why isn't there a Pen that's intuitive enough for everyone to use, so I could just pick one up and write with it?

But you don't. You never track anyone down. You never ask anyone your questions. And, deciding that installing a new electrical system is too big of a job, you let go of your dream of writing your own book.

You think, maybe the books out there aren't that bad.

Maybe you'll try to get your own Pen some other time.

In the meantime, who knows, perhaps someone already inside the Society will decide to make a pen that's easier to use, one that doesn't require newcomers to learn about electrical systems just to write a book.

Maybe.
