Agile & Feedback Reflection Guidelines

What have you learned about the use of agile vs. waterfall in software projects?

I was able to learn that the days that we checked in with each other as a group we were to get a lot more done and have a better understanding of the progress. This was important on later parts of the project.

How did you and your group approach project management in this project (what tools did you use, how did you hold each other accountable, etc.)?

We were able to come together and whiteboard a great approach with the html and naming conventions as well as the initial javascript functions. We also set up a great GitHub projects page to track the progress. It was a little difficult holding people accountable due to the high learning curve on this project and understanding that some functions can require more time.

What role did you take on in the project?

I think I took the role of the strategic thinking by always trying to bring the group together to work through tough problems and functions. We were able to keep a solid pace with we worked together.

What changes would you make to your approach in future team projects?

Coming together and communicated even more. It’s really important to understand what everyone is planning to tackling. Poor communication equals a lot of bugs.

How does retro function in a team project?

Retro was important to us during this project and helped us get understand how each works best. It was key when working together and while working separately.

In your team retro, how did you engage in the feedback process? What principles of feedback did you use in these conversations?

We actually had a tough discussing couching style feedback. I think the team wanted to stay positive but it was a little frustrating when an actual issue came up. I will in the future focus on trying to make that more important.

How would you describe your ability to communicate feedback? How has this experience affected your communication skills? How do you want to improve in your ability to communicate feedback?

I think I am fairly good and communicating feedback in constructive ways without anyone feeling disrespected. I was a sr. graphic designer for a while and had to edit other peoples work and maintain relationships with everyone at the same time. I think this project showed me the importance of having really good communication.

Great details and takeaways on the project, and I appreciate the connection to your previous experience to discuss how you approach communication, nice work!
