This part of downtown is within walkable distance to many lunch options, many of them good
enough to call "lunch."
** Yumm Terriyaki
This place is disgusting terriyaki. The most common conversation I have had when going there
begins when someone asks "What is that?" and I answer "It's chicken." And they say, "Noooo...
really?" Once the substance is identifiably chicken, it becomes much better. If you're ever
in the mood for greasy hole in the wall terriyaki, this is your spot.
-- Turn right out of the building. Walk up to Peachtree St and Yumm Terriyaki is across the
street.
** Big Daddy's Southern Cusine
The servings are large enough for big daddy himself. The lunch special is somewhere between
1.5 and 2 pounds of food for a ridiculously cheap price. Many options, all homemade southern
soul food. Go here if you're hungry or have at least one other person willing to help you eat
this stuff.
-- Turn right out of the building. Walk past the next-door entrance. Walk into the very next
entrance (probably 119 MLK).
** Alaydi's Cafe
You don't have to leave our building to get food. I recommend the chicken hot dog or chicken
salad sandwich for lunch. When Linda has biscuits, I highly recommend an egg-and-whatever-
else-you-want biscuit for breakfast. Linda serves breakfast all day.
-- Get a sandwich or breakfast food from Linda on the second floor. This is important: Take
the front elevator to 2R or the back elevator to 2. You'll find Alaydi's right there in the
hallway.
** Subway
If you don't know what Subway is, I'm not sure what I can say.
-- Turn left out of the building and left again onto Pryor St. Walk to Decatur St and look to
the right and across the street.
** Buenos Dias Cafe
If there were such a thing as healthy Mexican food, this would be it. Only you could more
accurately describe it as Central/South American food. With smoothies. The owners are pretty
awesome, too. If you enjoy healthy food and like street tacos and plantains, this is a good
place for you.
-- Turn left out of the building and left again onto Pryor St. Walk to Decatur St and look to
the right across the street.
** Waffle House
A familiar spot, frequented by Ga State students, open 24-hours a day. You know the drill.
Scattered, smothered, blah, blah, blah. I strongly recommend AGAINST the closest location, at
Underground Atlanta. There is a "security" surcharge and the wait staff tends to be a bit surly.
-- Turn left out of the building and left again onto Pryor St. Walk to Decatur St. and turn right.
Walk a couple of blocks all the way to Piedmont Ave. Look to the right across the street.
** Willy's
Burritos! Burritos! Burritos!
-- Turn left out of the building and left again onto Pryor St. Walk to Decatur St. and turn
right. Walk a couple of blocks all the way to Piedmont Ave. Look across the street.
** Roly Poly
Delicious and healthy wraps of many kinds. They have unhealthy wraps, too. Roly Poly is considered
a staple food for many downtowners. Make sure to ask for their frequent diner card so you can get
your 10th wrap for free.
-- Turn left out of the building and left again onto Pryor St. Walk just past Decatur Street and
you'll see Roly Poly on your right.
** Sensational Subs
The subs are not sensational. But if you're in the mood for a philly cheesesteak, ice cream, or
cheap beer, this is where you want to go.
-- Turn left out of the building and left again onto Pryor St. Turn right onto Edgewood Ave
and it's on the right.
** Ebrik Coffee House
Not a lunch place, really. It is what it sounds like. You can get fancy coffees here, including
Turkish (if you need a big boost).
-- Turn left out of the building and left again onto Pryor St. Walk just past Decatur Street and
you'll see Ebrik on your right.
** Blossom Tree
Korean Tacos. You heard that right. It's delicious and trendy.
-- Turn left out of the building and left again onto Pryor St. Walk all the way to the park. Turn
left onto Edgewood, then right onto Peachtree. You'll see Blossom Tree across the street.
**** Broad Street Storefronts ****
This block is the heart and soul of downtown lunch. To get here, turn left out of the building
and left again onto Pryor St. Walk all the way to the park. Turn left onto Edgewood, then right
onto Peachtree. Use the pedestrian crosswalk to cross Peachtree at Anatolia Cafe. Instead of
staying on Peachtree, you'll keep walking straight after crossing Peachtree. The very next block
is Broad Street.
** Dua Vietnamese
Great place to go for pho. For those who like Vietnamese food in general, I hear it's good for
that, too. The owners can be pretty stingy about some things here and there. Refills cost extra.
But their pho is delicious. They also offer the most reliable delivery service, next to Jimmy
John's.
** Rosa's Pizza
Atlanta's New York pizza institution. It's like two guys walked off the set of the Sopranos and
started a pizza joint. If you like your pizza normal and not fancy, you'll love Rosa's. This is
the real deal. The most common thing to get is their special deal: two slices with one topping
each, and a drink.
** Ali Baba's
Another staple of downtown lunch places. I highly recommend the falafel wrap. The owners are good
and generous people. If you go there at the right time and they have leftover baklava, you get
free baklava. I recommend getting your food to-go.
** Reuben's Deli
This is the best deli food you'll find downtown, by a long shot. Know what you want, shout out
your order. The owner Claudio, a man with a beard, is the guy usually at the cash register.
** NaanStop
Indian fusion food. Easy menu with limited options. You mix and match according to your taste.
And it's all delicious.
** Smoothie King & Another Subway
Smoothie King, if you don't like solid food. Subway if you like solid food and like taking
longer walks.
