* What is your greatest strength and how do you know?
My greatest strength is my ability to approach problems with a creative and optimistic mindset. Throughout the many chapters of my life, there have always been obstacles that I have had to overcome. Early on my ability to find meaning and lessons while facing problems have allowed me to experience tremendous growth in facing adversity, and ultimately every challenge that I have overcome has forced me to look at a situation from as many angles as I can, and move forward from an informed perspective using the best solution. Maintaining a positive attitude and relentless optimism in problem solving has always yielded a positive result as well as expanded my tool belt to face future problems with first hand understanding from past experiences.
* How do you work best?
I work best in a focused and dedicated environment free from distractions when possible. I love working in team dynamics which allow for multiple perspectives looking for a solution. I also work best when I understand exactly what is expected as well as the timeline within which the work needs to be completed. Making sure I am also prioritizing and taking care of my own self-care allows me to show up to work with a full tank and allows me to remain relaxed and present to fully focus on the task at hand.
* What is your greatest area of improvement?
My greatest area of improvement is not getting distracted in the middle of tasks. I have a tendency to start several things at once, and then be simultaneously in the middle of five things at once. Staying on track and following things to completion is not necessarily a struggle, but being self employed for much of the last 10 years has allowed me to always be on my own schedule instead of strictly adhering to an externally enforced structure. I am looking forward to the deadlines, timelines, and other structured pieces of this program because I have always tended to thrive when I’m in an intensive course that forces me to stay organized and doesn’t allow for as much free time or distraction.
* How do you hope to maximize your strengths for your new career in software development?
In the PAIRIN quiz, my strongest driver is the Caregiver attribute. I am by nature designed to work in a collaborative team environment that allows for cooperation and communal support. I am able to operate independently, and especially thrive when I know that my work is being counted on by others in a constellation of many parts working together towards a greater whole. I am looking forward to learning how to apply teamwork in a career setting that also requires creativity, problem solving and thrives on collaboration.
* How might knowing about your strengths and working preferences benefit you as a software developer?
Ultimately I believe that the better I know my strengths and weaknesses, the better equipped I am to contribute where I am most capable and ask for help when facing problems that are outside of my comfort zone. Knowing when to ask for help, and also being able to utilize available resources to get the necessary support feels like it will allow for heightened efficiency and productivity. I don’t know where my career as a software developer will take me, but staying open and coachable throughout this life long learning process feels like key components of successful and fulfilling personal and professional development. As with all things, utilizing work as an opportunity to grow and evolve as a human being is a top priority for me in this life. Maximizing growth through identifying my strengths as well as weaknesses will allow me to be aware of places I am able to contribute and the places where I’ll need to ask for help in order to achieve the desired results.
