EON Overview

Engineering and Cryptography Team Background

The EON engineer/cryptography team consists of 17 members, combining deep expertise in zero-knowledge proofs with strong engineering capabilities. The team is composed of diverse cryptography researchers and experienced blockchain engineers:

  • The team is led by Yongqiang Wang, a seasoned engineer with deep understanding of both cryptography and blockchain architecture. He was previously a core researcher at the NEO research team and has long focused on optimizing and designing next-generation blockchain.

  • Andreas Freund is a senior researcher in cryptography and consensus protocols. He has served as a consultant and core member for several blockchain and financial organizations, including the Ethereum Foundation.

EON from Scratch

Preface: Most modern blockchains mix consensus protocols with some virtual machine execution, which inevitably leads to scalability issues. Many pioneers have been exploring ways to revolutionize and create the next generation of high-performance blockchains—EON is no exception.

EON aims to become the TCP/IP protocol of the Web3 world—a scalable order coordinator that determines the latest state across different decentralized applications, and a flexible messenger that enables seamless communication between them. To achieve this goal, we believe that verifiability, enabled by a remarkable technology called zero-knowledge proofs, is an indispensable component. Based on this principle, EON is designed with the following architectural modules:

  • A minimal UTXO-based Base Layer, fully powered by zero-knowledge proofs.
  • Multiple Semantic Layers, which interact both with the Base Layer and with other Semantic Layers through EON’s unique mechanisms and frameworks.
