I am pleased to appear before you to discuss a serious threat to the honey bee and thus our food security in the United States. Ultimately, if no long-term solutions are developed to slow bee decline, consumers will pay more for the food they buy. The foods that bees are responsible for pollinating tend to be the foods that add vital nutrients, flavor and diversity to our diet: the fruits, nuts and vegetables that maintain health. I appreciate the funding increases that you included in the fiscal year 2014 appropriation. However, it’s important to recognize that total discretionary funding for the Department of Education, excluding Pell Grants, remains below the fiscal year 2010 level, and I worry about the long-term impact of the continuing slide in Federal education funding on the health of our economy and our democracy. PRESIDENT OBAMA’S 2015 BUDGET REQUEST Turning to 2015, the overall discretionary request for the Department of Education is $68.6 billion, an increase of $1.3 billion, or 1.9 percent, over the 2014 level. Within this total, we have six key priorities: (1)",

The President’s FY 2015 Budget requests $13.8 billion to fund the Department’s operating bureaus. This includes an important increase for the Internal Revenue Service and a decrease for the rest of the Department, which I will cover in more detail below. Let me start by saying what an honor it is to work with the dedicated men and women at the Department of Treasury. They are talented public servants who are focused on strengthening our country. They have endured much over recent years including a federal pay freeze, sequestration, and the government shutdown, and I want to thank them for their service and commitment. RADEMAKER National Security Project Advisor, Bipartisan Policy Center Principal, The Podesta Group “Verifying Iran’s Nuclear Compliance” Committee on Foreign Affairs U.S. House of Representatives June 10, 2014 Chairman Royce, Ranking Member Engel, Members of the Committee, it is an honor for me to appear before you today, after so many years of service in these halls as a member of the Committee staff. When I joined the staff in 1993, the risk of a nuclear Iran was one of this Committee’s foremost concerns. It is sobering to realize that more than twenty years later, it remains one of the greatest risks to the security of our nation. The American people are fortunate that this Committee has provided consistent leadership on this critical issue, and continues to do so today. I have been asked to address the question of verifying the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear compliance",

Lauder United States House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs June 10, 2014 Hearing on “Verifying Iran’s Nuclear Compliance” Chairman Royce, Ranking Member Engel, and Members of the Committee, thank you for the opportunity to be here to help address a vital topic for international security – monitoring Iranian compliance with a potential nuclear agreement. I appear before you today in my private capacity as someone who has labored on monitoring and verification issues over several decades. The views that I will be presenting are my own and are not intended to represent the views of the Intelligence Community, the Department of Defense, or the Defense Science Board Task Force on the Assessment of Nuclear Treaty Monitoring and Verification, of which I was a member. My statement draws heavily on that Defense Science Board Task Force Report as well as on the work of a non-governmental",
